Stress is alive in everybody. We each have different levels of stress. Some people handle every situation very well while others cannot handle stress at all.

Let’s talk about five different types of stress.

The first type is acute stress which is the immediate reaction to a new and challenging situation. The second is chronic stress which is a long-term reaction to all the stress that has accumulated in your life.
The third is trigger stress that occurs when you are unexpectedly presented with a challenging situation. The fourth type is not-knowing stress when you get the feeling of not knowing what to do next.

The fifth type is the ripple effect which is caused by a change in your routine life events and you have an inability to cope with changes in your environment.

Now we can look at the causes of stress. The American Psychological Association has done some studies of causes of stress. In a 2015 study, 72% of the adults were stressed about money during the prior month. By 2022, the updated study had 66% of the people being stressed about month during the previous month.

There have been several studies about the causes of stress. The top five causes of stress are (1) death of a loved one, (2) moving, (3) job loss, (4) divorce or separation, and (5) long-term illness.

There are many causes listed by different studies. The top five above are always listed as well as many people stating work is their main cause of stress.

In addition to those causes above, almost every list of the causes of stress include the following:

  1. Birth of a child
  2. Increased financial obligations
  3. Getting married
  4. A traumatic event such as a natural disaster, theft, rape, or violence against
    you or your loved one.

According to WEBMD, 40% of US workers admit to experiencing office stress. Of those participating in their study, 25% say work is the biggest stress. There is a breakdown of the causes of stress related to work stress. The breakdown includes the following:

  1. Unhappy in the job
  2. Heavy workload
  3. Work long hours
  4. Poor management and unclear expectations with no say in the decision-
    making process
  5. Dangerous working conditions
  6. Insecure about advancement or about the risk of termination

The types and causes of stress are just the beginning. We will also talk about some effects of stress on you and your body. And we will look at some of the ways to reduce stress in your life.
